Aquarelle Lips: Be Gentle and cause less damage!

One of the primary reasons lip pigmentation results look unnatural is excessive damage to the lips!

Here are basic tips on how to prevent that:

  • TIP 1: Numb Only When Necessary. If the client has never had a lip procedure and doesn't suffer from herpes or scar tissue that could make pigmentation painful, then numbing is usually unnecessary. Numbing alters the skin's structure and makes pigmentation more challenging.

  • TIP 2: Avoid Overstretching the Skin. Some inexperienced trainers advise beginners to stretch the skin excessively, leading to damaging the tissue. Opt for pinching instead; this technique helps you feel the vibration and gauge the correct pigmentation depth.

  • TIP 3: Master "Hovering and Touching". The needle should not penetrate the lip surface but merely "touch" it using precise hand movements. If blood appears, pause the pigmentation, move on, and return once you have dried the area.

  • TIP 4: Utilize Process Butter and Pigment Booster Palms. These smooth the skin, improve its softness and enhance pigment retention, all while minimizing skin damage.

  • TIP 5: Limit Time for Secondary Numbing. If you opt for secondary numbing, don't leave it on for over 2 minutes before pigmenting. Extended numbing causes the body to produce excessive lymph and blood, leading artists to further damage the skin when pigmentation starts.

  • TIP 6: Start with the Upper Lip. Generally, the upper lip tends to be more sensitive. By starting there, you often make the entire procedure more tolerable for the client.

  • TIP 7: Forego Heavy Outlines. Avoid starting with heavy outlines, which can lead to excessive internal pigmentation. With Aquarelle lips, the aim is to gently correct any asymmetry, steering clear of bold, heavy outlines.
