Tips for Lipstick Style:
Keep the outline within Vermilion borders. When mapping lips- especially thin ones - always place the apexes within the vermilion borders. Avoid correcting asymmetry on the skin outside the lips.
Opt for hybrid pigments. Choose hybrid pigments over inorganic ones for the best coverage and minimal traumatization.
Perform the lipstick test. Ask the client to bring her favorite lipstick of the color she wants and then apply it to her lips to gauge its true undertone. Use pigment drawdowns that display the true diluted tone to match this undertone. You can opt for a slightly warmer hue to match cool skin tones.
Rely on drawdowns for color opacity match. Don't trust the mass tones visible in pigment bottles. Use drawdown charts to confirm the diluted tone has the right opacity and warmth of the undertone.
Prioritize border precision. When creating borders, whip the needle towards yourself so you can always see it. For Lipstick Style, border precision is crucial.
Avoid overworking an area. If an area starts to bleed or react heavily, move to another section of the lips and return when the area has settled.
